Dementia is progressive decline in cognitive function due to damage or disease in the brain beyond what might be expected from normal aging. Diseases that cause dementia include Alzheimers, Picks, Multi-infarct dementia (vascular dementia), Frontotemporal lobar degeneration (FTLD), and Dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB).
